On the World Environment Day 2008, Venice has a special gift for Mother Earth - that is to help reduce bottled mineral consumption in the area.
Venice is a regular tourist spot in Italy, Venice will encourage tourist to drink from fountains and will be given an empty water bottle with a message “Don’t Throw Me Away, Re-use Me” complete with a map indicating the location of the 122 Fountains flowing with clean water.
Italian’s are the world’s largest consumers of bottled water, although the natural water flowing in Italy’s fountain is one of the cleanest in the world.
Hopefully the project would spread in many countries as well, especially here in the Philippines.
We think it would be a great idea to lessen the use of plastic bottled water if electronic drinking fountains would be visible again, especially in malls and schools.
