For us it was a storage problem. Last time I had this issue was a SAN problem. It sets the maximum timeout period to 5 seconds.

I'm having one small issue. The typical *mistake* people may make is to configure a debugger to monitor HttpException and generate dump files while HttpException occurs. I'm assuming the process recycled since it is back down to about 400MB. We currently have over 6000 clients in 24 groups reporting to our WSUS console.
